Palestine Solidarity Campaign

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign is a campaign in the United Kingdom promoting solidarity with the Palestinian people. It was founded in 1982 during the build-up to Israel's invasion of Lebanon.

The campaign states:

Since it was founded in 1982, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has become the largest and most active campaigning organisation in the UK on the issue of Palestine. We aim to build an effective mass campaign, organising protests, political lobbying and raising public awareness. We are an independent, non-governmental and non-party political organisation with members from many communities across Britain – and increasingly throughout the world.

It has local branches in all regions of England, Scotland and Wales and close links with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Current campaigns include Boycott Israeli Goods and Arms Embargo Campaign. The Brighton and Hove group has joined in the campaign to remove the factory of EDO MBM from the United Nations Peace Messenger City.

In December 2009 the PSC joined with Viva Palestina to help to send a convoy of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Boycott Israeli goods campaign

Local branches, including the Brighton and Hove PSC and West Midlands PSC, support the Boycott Israeli Goods campaign by holding weekly activities outside supermarkets that stock Israeli goods and distributing information on companies which support Israel. This is part of a national campaign launched in the House of Commons on 4 July 2006 by the national Palestine Solidarity Campaign to boycott Israeli products and tourism. The national campaign is linked to an international movement associated with the Palestinian United Call for BDS (Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions) by Palestinian civil society organisations in July 2005.[1]

In November 2009, the Board of Deputies of British Jews and its Fair Play Campaign Group organised a "buycott", encouraging the purchase of Israeli products from supermarkets, in response to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign's boycott of Israeli goods in Waitrose and Morrisons.[2]
